Biocleaner test in a cheese production plant

The main activity of this company is the production of cheese products. The BOD value of the effluent from the process exceeds 2000 mgO2/l. However, the more serious problem for the company was the unpleasant whey odours.

The Biocleaner demonstration test started on 22 July 2016, when 900 L of production wastewater was poured into a container and the Biocleaner was started.

The initial BOD of the effluent was 2185 mgO2/l.

After the first 3 days, the unpleasant odour was no longer noticeable and the BOD dropped to 386 mgO2/l.

Within 7 days of starting the Biocleaner, the BOD dropped to 17.4 mgO2/l.

As can be seen from the test results, a BOD reduction of more than 99% was achieved within one week. This figure could be even higher, as in the pilot version the wastewater was treated only in aerobic media.

The effluent samples were analysed in the laboratory of UAB Ekometrija, which operates in accordance with the requirements of the international standard LST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2006.
